Easy Vs. Simple

Easy Vs. Simple

In my coaching, I focus on trying to make things easy for my clients.

We don’t need to complicate things or over-organize. We need to identify and break through roadblocks and bottlenecks in our space and flow so we can keep our space clear.

But every time I said the word EASY…it didn’t sit quite right. It wasn’t THE word I wanted to use.

A few days ago I listened to my favorite guys, Josh and Ryan, on their Minimalist Podcast and they cleared this up for me. The word I was looking for was SIMPLE – not easy.

There's a Big Difference Between Easy and Simple

  • EASY is going to buy new socks each time you need a fresh, clean pair and never purging any old socks.
  • SIMPLE is only having 7 pairs of socks and being caught up on laundry and grabbing just what you need.
  • EASY is throwing all your odds and ends in a junk drawer.
  • SIMPLE is having your junk drawer organized and clutter free so you can grab what you need.
  • EASY is tossing everything willy-nilly in a box when you move.
  • SIMPLE is purging as you go and packing only things you truly want to move with you so when you open that box, it’s matched, organized and ready to put away into your new space.

There's a little more work to SIMPLE — at first.

You’ve got to untangle things and get your things proportional to your space. You’ve got to release some old habits and work on new systems. You’ve got to untangle things and get your things proportional to your space. You’ve got to release some old habits and work on new systems. Once you have let go of perfectionism and toxic control, you’ll find SIMPLE becomes EASY.

You can feel good in your space again, I promise. Take a look around and see what you can simplify.
